The unique flavor of Gouda cheese is carefully protected

The flavor of Gouda cheese is unique and world famous. For centuries, our cheese manufacturers have carefully monitored the flavor and other sensory aspects of the cheese. Every week, hundreds of samples are judged by sensory panels; if necessary, the production process is modified. The results of these analyses are also used to improve the cheese’s quality.

This is why Gouda cheese is one of the most famous cheeses in the world. The European Union has therefore granted Gouda cheese “protected geographical indication” (PGI) status. The PGI label – which is also granted to other famed regional products like champagne and Ardennes ham – guarantees that Gouda Holland actually comes from the Netherlands and is made according to the traditional Dutch recipe.
