Pieter Walstra Award 2024 open for submissions

The Pieter Walstra Award 2024 is open for research submissions in the field of dairy science and technology.

The Pieter Walstra Award is presented biannually by the Dutch Dairy Organization (NZO). The purpose of the award is to stimulate excellent scientific publications in the field of dairy science and technology, in the spirit of Pieter Walstra’s work: critical, innovative, inspired by and directed towards practical problems. The award consists of a price of € 3,000 and a certificate.

The Pieter Walstra Award is a tribute to prof. dr. Pieter Walstra († May 2012) and his scientific dairy research. Wageningen professor Pieter Walstra conducted scientific research that was fundamental in nature but also strongly inspired by practice. His important research and work has given Dutch dairy research and the dairy industry a prominent place in the world.

Submissions before December 31, 2023
Nominations for the Pieter Walstra Award 2024 must be submitted in English and electronically to the chairman of the jury, prof. dr. ir. Thom Huppertz (thom.huppertz@wur.nl). Nominations must reach the jury before December 31, 2023. The jury of the Pieter Walstra Award 2024 consists of chairman Prof.dr.ir. Thom Huppertz, prof.dr. Ingeborg Haagsma-Boels and dr. Mohèb Elwakiel.

The publication can be a paper in a refereed scientific journal or it can be a PhD thesis. In addition to the publication or dissertation, a CV and a list of publications must be attached. The award is international; so there is no geographical limitation. Scientists under the age of 40 (as of January 1, 2024) are especially encouraged to submit their research. Third parties can also bring a publication by someone else to the attention of the jury. A person can only submit a specific publication once. The award will be handed over during the spring meeting of the Society for the Advancement of Dairy Science (Genootschap ter Bevordering van de Melkkunde) on April 11, 2024.
