Naomi van As promotes healthy nutrition on World School Milk Day

World School Milk Day was celebrated in over 40 countries on 28 September. Olympic hockey player Naomi van As was the central figure of the celebrations in the Netherlands. She visited primary school De Odyssee in Amsterdam to do a workout and to emphasise the importance of being fit by means of healthy nutrition. ‘I also grew up with drinking milk!’, Naomi van As called out to the pupils present.

‘Fit at school – through healthy food and exercise’

In cooperation with KlasseTV, the Dutch Dairy Association (NZO) developed the teaching package ‘Fit at School – through healthy food and exercise’. This free package is targeted at pupils of groups 1 – 8. With statements about being fit from Naomi van As, theoretical foundations and various exercise sessions this teaching packages challenges the children to start working together on healthy food and exercise. Additional information about ‘Fit at School’ can be found on the website of KlasseTV.

World School Milk Day is an initiative of the Food and Agriculture Organisation and the organisation for the Netherlands is in the hand of the Dutch Dairy Association. On this day healthy nutrition for children and the contribution that dairy makes to strong muscles, bones and teeth are central. The Dutch Nutrition Centre advises children to daily consume 2-3 servings of milk and milk products as well as a cheese sandwich. In particular children of school age – from infants to adolescents – need a lot of nutrients for healthy growth and development.
