Princess Beatrix and Ambassador Miljuschka from Van Moeder Natuur open the National School Breakfast

This year’s official opening of the 14th edition of the National School Breakfast was particularly special. Princess Beatrix visited Hortus Botanicus in Leiden today to kick off the week around the breakfast. The princess was accompanied by Miljuschka Witzenhausen, ambassador for the Van Moeder Natuur platform.

This week highlights the importance of a healthy breakfast. More than 550,000 children will eat breakfast at school, which will include yogurt, milk and cheese. The National School Breakfast is supported by the Netherlands Nutrition Centre, Jongeren Op Gezond Gewicht, the Hartstichting, the Maag Lever Darm Stichting, and the Nederlandse Coeliakie Vereniging. As of this year, the National School Breakfast is also an official event of the Healthy School initiative, a partnership between the Centre for Healthy Living, education councils, health foundations and research institutes.
